Escape the bustle of town and join St. Leonard’s Toursfor a peaceful horseback riding experience in Belize that explores the heart of the countryside. This leisurely trail ride unfolds across the Juan family’s private farm, offering a blend of natural scenery, quiet jungle paths, open savannah, and a serene stretch of the Mopan River. You'll pass through historic land once walked by the ancient Maya and now cultivated as an organic fruit and cattle farm.


The tour is ideal for first-time riders, novice horse lovers, and experienced equestrians alike. Our well-trained horses and knowledgeable wranglers ensure a safe and engaging experience for all ability levels. Along the ride, you’ll see native birds like parrots, herons, and kiskadees, observe tropical fruit trees, and learn about Belizean organic farming and medicinal plants.


This shared tour offers a gentle rhythm, perfect for travelers who want a cultural and natural experience (eco-tours) without intense physical exertion. Depending on your scheduled time, you may also enjoy different lighting and animal activity throughout the day.

What to Expect

Your tour begins with pickup from your hotel or accommodation in San Ignacio. You will be driven to St. Leonard’s Stable, located in the San Lorenzo area, where your horse will be paired to suit your comfort and experience. Helmets will be provided, and your guide will give a safety briefing before you begin your ride.

You’ll journey through shaded jungle trails filled with birdsong, into sunlit pastures dotted with fruit trees and cattle. As you follow the path toward the Mopan River, your guide may share stories about local farming practices, the historical connection of the land to the Maya civilization, and the significance of native plants.

The tour also includes a chance to guide your horse through the Mopan River, a peaceful and memorable moment that many guests cherish. Depending on your route, your guide may stop near one of the lesser-known Maya mounds or sites scattered across the area for a brief photo or educational stop.
