About Trip

Join St. Leonard’s Tours for an exhilarating yet relaxing adventure into the sacred caves of the ancient Maya. This Belize cave tubing experience takes you into the depths of the Nohoch Che’en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve, also known as Jaguar Paw, where jungle trails, crystal-lined caverns, and gentle underground rivers create one of the most immersive adventures in Belize.

Your day begins with a mid-morning pickup from your hotel in San Ignacio Town, followed by a scenic drive through the Belizean countryside to reach the reserve. Upon arrival, your guide will outfit you with all necessary cave tubing gear, including a helmet, waterproof headlamp, tube, and life vest. After a short safety briefing, you'll embark on a 20–45-minute hike along a jungle trail flanked by towering trees and the calls of tropical birds. This trail leads to the cave entrance—once believed by the Maya to be a portal to Xibalba, the spiritual underworld.

The adventure continues as you step into your tube and float gently into a series of cathedral-like caverns, adorned with glittering stalactites, rimstone pools, and natural rock formations shaped by centuries of flowing water. Your experienced guide will share insights into the archaeological and geological significance of the caves and highlight ceremonial features such as Maya altars and artifacts.

At key moments, you'll exit your tube to explore larger chambers on foot, including a stunning crystal chamber and a detour into Crystal Cave, where light and shadow reveal nature’s ancient artistry. Depending on the group’s energy and water levels, some guests enjoy jumping from short ledges into cool cave pools before continuing downstream toward the river’s end.

Whether you're seeking cultural immersion or simply a fun and refreshing escape, this tour offers an unforgettable mix of Belize’s natural beauty and Maya history, ending with a hearty Belizean lunchand a comfortable return drive to your hotel.

What to Expect

On the Jaguar Paw Deluxe Cave Tubing Tour, your experience begins with a late-morning pickup from your hotel in San Ignacio, followed by a scenic drive toward Nohoch Che’en. When you arrive at the park, your guide will fit you with a helmet, life vest, and headlamp before leading you on a 20- to 45-minute jungle hike. This walk takes you along a shaded riverside trail, with multiple shallow river crossings and opportunities to spot birds, vines, and tropical plants. The hike itself builds anticipation as you draw closer to the cave entrance.

At the river launch point, you'll sit in your tube and begin to float gently into the darkness of the cave system. The water is cool and clear, and your guide will navigate the flow while pointing out the ancient rock formations, glistening stalactites, and ceremonial chambers once used by the Maya. At various points, you'll stop to explore hidden sections on foot, including dry caves with crystalline walls and echoing stone chambers. There are also optional small jumps into pools inside the cave, for those feeling adventurous. After the float concludes, you’ll return to the picnic area for a satisfying Belizean lunch. You’ll leave the park feeling refreshed, a little tired, and fully immersed in one of Belize’s most memorable natural wonders.
